I think one of the greatest things about learning about our strengths is that it helps us understand how we’re wired, not how we’re weird. Yes, it’s a play on words. But it’s a really important one.
Our ways of being are natural to us. They may not be natural to someone else because they’re wired to be another way.
Just Being Different Doesn’t Make Us Weird
Have you ever felt like you were different from your peers growing up, your coworkers, or even your close friends? It’s natural to feel a little out of place, or like you’re the ‘weird’ one in the group. The fact is, each person has different talents. Nearly everyone feels different when they compare themselves to the next person.
Being different doesn’t make you weird at all. It makes you unique. Sure, sometimes our talents make us feel quirky or may seem quirky to other people. I’ll give you an example. I have a talent called Maximizer. It’s my number two talent according to my CliftonStrengths assessment.
Because of my Maximizer talent I like to take things that are good and help make them great. So one of my quirks is that I tend to straighten pictures on walls, even in other people’s homes. If I see a picture that’s crooked, I might make my way over to straighten it at some point during the evening. It’s not a judgment on whether their pictures are straight or not. If it can be straight, it should be straight. If it’s a picture, why not?
Yup, it’s quirky! My partner and I laugh about it and my friends laugh about it. But my talent Maximizer is also really useful to me and to others when I help people move from being really good at something, to incredibly good at doing something because they’re aligned to their natural talents.
I Challenge You to Lean Into How You’re Wired
This is why I love what I do. Everyone is different and one of the worst things you can do is try to be something you’re not to avoid seeming weird, or because someone important at some point told you “You should be (insert whatever ‘should’ they ‘should’ed’ you with)” That only wastes time and leads to a whole lot of frustration. The only thing you should be is… yourself!
At CoreFocus Consulting, we help people understand their strengths, lean into them, and maximize them. You’ll learn more about how you’re wired and how others in your life or on your team are wired. When you start to lean into who you truly are and maximize your unique strengths, you’ll find that you’re more passionate day-to-day and make fewer mistakes.
Accepting how you’re wired can lead to becoming more fulfilled and successful overall vs trying to change who you are.
So whether you’re a person who’s just interested in this stuff, or you’re a leader of a team of people that you’d like to see maximize its potential, we can do that. The bottom line is that it works!
I’m so excited to embark on this journey with you. So let’s get started!
Oh, and if you have any pictures that need straightening, I am definitely your guy! 😉
